Review: By Virtue Fall by Carrie Elks

Juliet Shakespeare is done with love. With a growing floristry business and an adorable daughter to raise, life after separating from her husband is complicated enough.

But when handsome single father, Ryan Sutherland, arrives in town, everything changes. As much as she tries to distract herself, Juliet can't help but be drawn to the easy-going Romeo next door and the way he makes her feel.

Photographer Ryan is only back in his hometown for a few months so there's no point falling for someone he'll just have to say goodbye to. But he didn't account for Juliet - the intriguing and beautiful, red-haired woman next door. And in her, he might just have found everything he ever wanted . . .

By Virtue Fall is the fourth and final instalment in The Shakespeare Sisters series, which I've loved! The series follows the lives and loves of four sisters, with each book focusing on one sister in particular. Although the series is best read in order, each novel can be read as a standalone for that quick chick lit fix. I raced through each of these, and thoroughly enjoyed them.

No matter what your taste in romantic fiction, there's something in this series, and it's selection of fictional men, for you. Hot holiday romance with Hollywood royalty, a cosy Christmas for two in a snowy log cabin, a handsome billionaire in the Scottish highlands or a second chance at love for single parents (with adorable children) in small town America. Each book is completely different, but the series as a whole really works. You feel the strong bond between the four sisters, and no matter where they are in the world they always have time for each other.

In By Virtue Fall we get to know the fourth sister, Juliet. She's recently separated from her husband, and they have an adorable daughter named Poppy. Tensions between Juliet and Thomas, her estranged husband, are strained at the best of times. Then Ryan Sutherland moves in next door. He's the all American dream - he's blonde, he's sculptured, he sails - and he has a child of his own. Oh, and he's a great dancer too! Ryan and Juliet soon hit it off, but Ryan has history in Shaw Haven, and there are some who aren't so pleased that he's back in town - including Thomas. Juliet has to decide whether to follow her head or her heart, which is easier said than done with a failed marriage and a troublemaking ex behind you.

Ryan was just gorgeous, an all round good guy - and his ability to build tree houses was an added bonus! I'll admit I'm a sucker for cute children in fiction, and Poppy and Charlie (Ryan's son) absolutely melted my heart. Juliet I really felt for - she truly deserved her second chance at love and I was willing her to follow her heart and not be swayed by others.

As its title suggests By Virtue Fall is the perfect cosy Autumn read, and I'm sad to see The Shakespeare Sisters series draw to a close. That said, the way this book ended everything was just perfect, and I know for certain that this is one series I will reread in the future!
