Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Favourite Classic Books
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
This week's theme is classic books. As an English Lit graduate I've read a fair few classic novels in my time, and these, in no particular order, are some of my favourites:

| The Pride and Prejudice of the North. |

| My favourite of Thomas Hardy's novels. |
 |
| The most famous of Jane Austen's works, and rightly so. |
 |
| The battle between love and convention set in The Gilded Age of New York. |
 |
| The American classic that everyone ought to have read. It's so short that you have no excuse! |
 |
| Loved the film, love the book even more! |
 |
| The epitome of governess and master romances (excluding Maria and Captain Von Trapp of course!) Though I do tend to skip the young Jane sections and go straight to Thornfield. |
 |
| I saw the film version first, and was blown away when I read the book some years later. Beautiful. |
 |
| An underrated Bronte novel that I absolutely love! I actually prefer it to Wuthering Heights. |
 |
| I ought to rename my blog 'Second Star to the Right' given that I blog about this book so much! An all time favourite. |
What's on your lists this week?
I wish I had read as many classics as you have :D my list this week is a TBR rather than favourites. Maybe I should start with The Great Gatsby since as you rightfully pointed out, it's so short I really have no excuse! Great list!

I've still got loads of classics that I've been meaning to read too, you have to be in the mood for them I find! Though I'd definitely recommend Gatsby! :)

Deletehmmm... seeing that you prefer Anne Bronte to Emily kind of makes me curious of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall... I'm definitely taking note of this one :3

I was surprised how much I enjoyed it, I had to read it for my course at uni and I couldn't put it down!
DeleteOh my gosh, I'm so glad to see Anne Bronte on someone else's list! :) She's so underrated which is a real shame because she's amazing. The Secret Garden and Jane Eyre are on my list, too. Great list!
ReplyDeleteShe really is, I wasn't really expecting to like The Tenant of Wildfell Hall but once I'd started I couldn't put it down! The Secret Garden and Jane Eyre are just amazing!

I was at uni when I first read it, can't believe I'd been missing out on it for so long! I actually love how different it is to the Disney film, there are so many different interpretations of the story!
DeleteI really need to read Thomas Hardy and Edith Wharton. I have not yet read Anne Bronte but I have read Charlotte and Emily, although I'm a much bigger fan of Wuthering Heights than Jane Eyre. Great list!

I think I prefer Jane Eyre, but there are passages and quotes from both that I absolutely love! Wharton was another revelation in American fiction for me alongside Fitzgerald, though Age of Innocence is by far my favourite of her novels :)
